"The Mysterious Song Of Internet" is the title given to a song, which was seemingly recorded back in the 1980s. But it's origin, artist, writer, record date, etc. are completely unknown.
Till 2018, this song was anonymous. But it suddenly went viral as a topic of interlocutions in 2019.
I too first heard of this song in 2019. I tried to recall the voices of all the old rock bands I have heard and tried to match them with this song's artist's voice. Nirvana, The Beatles, Guns And Roses, AC/DC, System Of A Down, Linkin Park..... the list just goes on.
But in my knowledge, the artist belongs to none of the bands I thought about.
A man named Darius S says that he first heard this song on a radio program broadcasted by the German Public Radio Station NDR. He then rendered the song into a cassette tape wherein he had popular songs from the 80s belonging to popular artists like The Cure, XTC, etc.
In 2007, Darius's sister Lydia used a pseudonym Anton Riedel and started her search for the origin of the song on various websites with song identification tools.
In 2019, a Brazilian named Gabriel De Silva attempted to find something about the song's origin. He uploaded the snippet of the song which was crazily circulated aaound social media and also founded the reddit "r/TheMysteriousSong"
In 2019 itself, A YouTube channel named Systematica uploaded the full version of the song and another YouTuber Justin Whang has discussed about this in his video "The Most Mysterious Song On Internet - Tales From The Internet" . On July 10 2020, Reddit user u/FlexxonMobil examined a playlist of songs played by Baskerville in 1984 in the "Musik Fur Junge Leute" compilation. There was no trace of the song in the playlist, crossing out the theory that Baskerville had recorded the song. Later it was also concluded that the song was never played in "Musik Fur Junge Leute"
After this more song playlists were brought for examining and it was found to contain many of the songs that were taped by Darius and Lydia in 1984.
After this more song playlists were brought for examining and it was found to contain many of the songs that were taped by Darius and Lydia in 1984.
Many more investigations conclude that the song wasn't played on any other radio station apart from NDR and that's where Darius originally heard the song.
Inspite of being a song with a catchy melody and beautiful lyrics, the fact that no one on the planet knows nothing about the song just makes it scary, creepier and disturbing to listen to. If you find anything about this song or the artist, feel free to let me know in the comments. I would be more than happy to know about your findings. :)
